magnetite-maghemite crystals

Magnetite is a black mineral form of iron oxide that crystallizes in the cubic or isometric system, namely all crystals which have their crystallographic axes of equal length at 90 degrees to each other. it is mixed iron(II),iron(III)oxide and Fe3O4, and is one of the major ores of iron that is strongly magnetic. magnetite crystals are in a linear, membrane-bound chains a few micrometers in length, with up to 80 crystals per chain

All the magnetite crystals that have been examined to date are single magnetic domains, which means that they are uniformly and stably magnetized and have the maximum magnetic moment per volume possible formagnetite they are generally well organized and show that there is a strict biological control.

Ferromagnetic crystals interact more then a million times more strongly with external magnetic fields then do diamagnetic or paramagnetic materials researchers have also found out that the magnetite is prodiced by the cells of the organism when needed. Forms of advanced physical intelligence can directly tap into this information if they have a crstalline network within their brain activity

magnitite has been found in animals that navigate by compass direction, like bees, birds and fish.

the piezoelectric effect refers to that property of matter which may convert electromagnetic oscillations into mechanicl vibrations and visa vie stress is converted into an electrical signal. researchers have found ha bone is an LED that required an outside source of light before an electric current wouldmake it release its own light, and the light it emitted was at the infrared frequency invisible to us, but consistent. with the use of an applied current of a few microamperes regeneration of the spinal cord, optic nerve and bone has been emonstrated and naturally generated electric currents have been linked to changes in developing embryos and in regenerating limbs

Severe magnetic storms cause definite disturbances in the rythmn of the birth rate.

page 10

The greatest strength of the permanent magnetic field(modulus of the total vector) at the Earth's surface is 0.7 Oe.

If one assumes that this moment is concentrated in a magnet situated at a distance of approximately 400 km from the Earths center, the direction of the axis of magnetization of this magnet makes an angle of 11.5 degrees with the Earths axis of rotation. The field produced by it is called a dipole field.

The total vector of the Earth's magnetic field undergoes changes in space as well as changes in absolute magnitude. The position of the vector in space can be characterized by two angular quanities- the declination and dip. The magnetic declination D is the angle of the horizontal plane, I E the angle between the geographic meridian of the particular point on the Earth. The magnetic dip I is the angle between the horizonal plane and the direction of the intensity of the total GMF vector.

The total GMF vector and its elements are connected with one another by the following relations:

T = (H E2 + Z E2)1/2 tanI = Z/H

tan D = Y/X T = H sec I H = (X E2 + Y E2)1/2

X = H cos D Y = H sin D

The total GMF is Ht = Ho + Hm + He + Ha + Hdelta

The total vector and its vertical and horizontal components are measured in oersteds and gammas (1 Oe = 10 E5 gamma) the declination and the dip are measured in angular degrees and minutes.

page 106

There is no doubt that energy exchange processes take place in a biological object so long as it is alive.

page 107,108

Hence, energy processes themselves depend on deep interrelation of the GMF with membranous structures and with the processes occuring directly in them, while the permability, vary rhythmically, for substances of any nature, including gases, is merely a reflection of this relation between the GMF and the molecules and submolecular structures of membranes.

page 109

From these studies the authors conclude that all organisms are distinctly oriented in geophysical space and in time and form part of a single integrated system in which magnetic fields play an important role.

page 161

Thus the level of magnetic disturbance or, more precisely, the state of the geomagnetic field at the moment of conception has it's own effect on the nature of the nervous constitution, activity, and entire subsequent development of the human being.

page 163

It has been concluded from numerous experimental studies that the nervous system is the first system to respond to electromagnetic fields, since it is the first to encounter any external stimuli, and it responds to the magnetic field in a direct and reflex manner(243). Kholodov stresses that the effect electromagnetic fields on the central nervous system is nonspecific and is largely of a subsensory nature, and that their reception resembles the activity of interoreceptors.Of interest in this respect is Persinger's paper(1041) on a basic problem pf parapsycology-- information transfer from person to person without the use of known sensory models. It is suggested that the energy required for such extrasensory transmission does not come from the organism itself, but from its enviroment. Persinger concentrated his attention on three physical factors--low frequency sound(infrasound)fields, high-voltage static electric fields, and GMF disturbances. An analysis of daily data showed that there was a correlation(r = -0.58) between monthly disturbance of the GMF(mean value for a period of 58 years) and monthly data for clairvoyant and telepathic effects.

page 63

The Earth itself is a gigantic complex dipole magnet---not unlike the common bar magnet, with its north and south poles-- with a spinning core of molten iron and nickel thousands of miles beneath its surface. Micropulsations in the 10 hertz range emanate constantly from the planets core. Scientists once thought of this as an interesting but innocuous phenomenon. But science is increasingly coming to understand that all of life, including those most basic daily rhythms of waking and sleeping, are effected by our interactions with this intricate natural magnetic environment. Many now think that all living things are subtle--and sometimes not so subtle--harmony with it, that influences everything from the migration patterns of birds down to every cell division(mitosis)that takes place in the human body.

page 65

The interaction of energy from the solar winds and the earths magnetic field also creates large natural electrical currents that can reach billions of watts. In addition, it creates ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in various frequencies, including extremely low frequency(ELF) waves between 0 and 100 cycles per second and waves in the very low frequency(VLF) range of 100 to 1,000 cycles per second.

page 118

The body is, for instance, far more attuned to the various frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum than anyone had imagined, as our natural circadian rhythms demonstrate.

pages 151,152,153

In their studies, all areas of the brain revealed significant levels of magnetite, but the highest levels were associated with the meninges, the membrane that covers the brain. There were about 5 million crystals per gram or brain tissue, with concentrations of over 100 million crystals per gram meninges. Two types of magnetite were found, and much of it occurred in clumps. They were organized like celluar configurations called magnetosomes, the long crystal chains found in magnetic bacteria and fish, among other species, which use the Earths magnetic fields for vital directional information.

The kind of magnetite the researchers discovered(ferromagnetite) interacts a million times more strongly with external magnetic fields than with other biological material. It is not only permanantly magnetic but is also capable of acting as a metallic conductor. The crystals that the Kirschvink research group isolated could be moved around by magnetic fields only slightly stronger the the Earth's natural magnetic background.

This research suggests that if magnetite crystals are coupled with the cell's ion channels, external fields could be openning and closing these channels, with unknown biological effects. It is one plausible mechanism for the observed effects of the calcium efflux response different frequencies.

The research may also point to the method by which we humans extract basic magnetic information from the world around us...

Dr Baker also conducted a series of experiments onthe human ability to sense magnetic north, and he was able to disturb a test subject's sense of direction for up to two hours by applying a bar magnet to the forehead for only fifteen minutes.

Lipids play a variety of cellular roles, including some only recently recognized. They are the principal form of stored energy in most organisms, as well as major constituents of cell membranes... The ability to synthesize a variety of lipids is therefore essential to all organisms...

Like other biosynthetic pathways, these reaction sequences are endergonic and reductive. They use ATP as a source of metabolic energy and a reduced electron carrier(usually NADPH) as a reductant.

page 658

Most of the fatty acids synthesized or ingested by an organism have one of two fates; incorporation into tricylglycerols for the storage of metabolic energy or incorporation into the phospholipid components of membranes. The partitioning between these alternative fates depends on the requirements of the organism...

Animals can synthesize and store large quantities of tricylglycerols, to be used later as fuel. In humans only a few hundred grams of glycogen can be stored in the liver and muscles, barely enough to supply the body's energy needs for 12 hours. In contrast, the total amount of stored tricylglycerol in a 70kg man of average build is about 15kg, enough to supply his basal energy needs for as long as 12 weeks...

page 660

The biosynthesis and degradation of tricylglycerols are regulated reciprocally, with the favored path depending upon the metabolic resources and requirements of the moment.

Residential electrical currents are called alternating(AC) because they change direction 60 times every second. At much higher frequencies, especially in the microwave range of 0.3 to 300 billion cycles per second, EMF can heat up exposed biological tissue(hence, microwave cooking. Skin, eyes, and testicles have long been known to be sensitive to such thermal effects.

The Phenomenom of paramagnetism can be represented as follows: Already before hand, the individual molecules possess a fixed magnetic moment, and when an external field is applied these tiny elementary magnets become partially aligned. The aligning action of the external field is opposed by the disordering tendency of thermal motion. Thus in conformity with Curie's law, the same external field at lower temperature produces a higher degree of order than at a higher temperature.

The cerebral cortex is most frequently associated with the thinking process even though it cannot provide thinking without simultaneous action of most deep structures of the brain. Yet this is where most of our memoriy storage is held, and also includes motor skills...
